Okay so im not new to farm animals at all but this is my first go of actually having my own goats, we had them before on the farm but never long term. So last spring i bought a 3 does, 1 whether and ended up getting one couldn't pass it up buck. They are all within a month of the same age, i still need to register them as they are all register able. I built a fairly large paddock for them with the intent of putting the billy and whether in a different pen but fast fall and
alot of other things came up i never got to build a second pen and came to the thought of just simply taking 1/4 of t he current paddock an fencing it off for them. The biggest reason for a separate pen was the smell of the billy but he really doesnt stink im not sure if he hasnt started to spray yet his beard does some but not even close to the other billys we had before, from what i found the Nigerians tend to be less smelly. I still will want him apart to stop year round breeding. So a small hut for them is next on my spring projects as for the does i have a shed i recycled for them as a mini barn they can go in an out of which is where i
feed them. So i did a good bit of research and the time i spend outside near or with them i havent noticed any signs of breeding my plan was to wait til they were a year but i read they can go into heat at 6 months. Like i said i saw no signs of breeding tail flicking or mounting so i dont think they have breed but my does are looking heavy but this could be due to the small nature of the breed i havent got too much
experience in this part and was wondering what are some signs to look for. i havent noticed an bagging up of the udders or any other then normal behavior. Like i said i havent seen any signs at this point but i do work full time. Any input would be helpful
