Thanks for sharing! It is interesting that sugar cane grows better planted next to banana. In pearl river delta of China, bananas and sugar canes are major crops grown there. Usually the field will have duck ponds scattering around. But they are all monocrop; I am wondering if the local farmers have tried interplanting the two and compare the yield.
Iteresting to hear as I have hypotisized the same due to the fact that most grasses tend to reduce root nematode levels in soil. I've heard that if you're field of bananas is quite an infected with nematodes you can rip them all out and Plant wheat for 2 or 3 years then the land will be ready for bananas again but I prefer planting the sugar cane and spacing my bananas farther apart I'm aiming for 10 m spacing though I might go with 8 m we'll have to see how much shade the sugar cane can take I also want to mix pigeon peas with the sugar cane and bananas to provide the nitrogen and to provide protein for us and for livestock.
