I was considering growing lovage but found out the roots (which I was hoping to use for food) contain furanocoumarins and they may lead to photosensitivity. Not sure the risk is worth the return. Anyone have either positive or negative experiences?
"Si hortum in bibliotheca habes, nihil deerit." [If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need] Marcus Tullius Cicero in Ad Familiares IX, 4, to Varro.
Lovage is in the celery/carrot family. Most of the plants in that family is poisonous(medicinal at the right dosage). They are good as culinary herbs/tinctures/medicinal. I would use them. Garlic which is another herb is known to affect the blood and heart too. The mint/thyme family similarly are very bio-active. But you know your body best. I know some people who are allergic to even pear even though I can eat a ton of it.
