I have mentored freelancers and agile workers in my field for a while.
One good resource that often gets mentioned is Freelancers Union. While it is US-based a lot of the resources apply to anyone anywhere, ideas on working with clients, tools, software, etc. If you are US based there is good info on paying taxes (always drama) and you can even sign up for health insurance through it. The Resources and Blog tabs are especially useful.

Two very relevant things appeared in my inbox from them today:

How your taxes this year might be affected if you moved temporarily due to COVID

Ideas for growing a young business without working around the clock (gives concrete examples of tools and strategies for various tasks)

Interesting site. It is, as you say, US focused.

A good topic would be the pro-and-con issues of freelancing as an individual ("sole proprietor" under tax law up here) versus incorporating -- and determining the point where the latter becomes worth the trouble.

Amen. That is a great discussion, especially in places like California (and other states in the near future, I hear) where freelancing or working individually is about to change drastically.

sounds like a good idea for a thread.  please post a link here when you start the thread.

Douglas, have you seen this? Canadian Freelance Union

It looks very similar to the other Freelance Union site but without the blog aspect (or maybe that exists if you are a member). There are some tax-related things in their resources section.

I think you should start a thread about the tax discussion (I would, but I know nothing about how it works in Canada, and even for my US income I don't touch that with a 10-foot pole). If you do, link it here for posterity!

I came across a website with a lot of useful information and ideas on gig work, side hustles, writing/freelancing/blogging etc.:
