I' d been planning on putting out feelers into my community by inviting people that are allready involved in different initiatives in my town that might fit under this umbrella, to a pot luck and discussion. I don' t think that would be a good idea now. What would you do instead to get the ball rolling?
I don' t think that these busy people are looking for another thing on their plate, but I thought at least we could all get a bit better connected... and who knows, maybe unearth a handful that would like to do transition. So my first goal was simply to network existing initiatives and people involved, and look for synergies or recurring needs.
The challenge is that the easiest way to do this is for people meeting face to face which is not so easy these days.

I tried, first by semding out emails and then by putting up an online forum where we could communicate until we could meet in person. I got very enthusiastic responses, but when the forum was up, things got better covid-wise (I'm in Belgium), peoples' lives picked up again, and the whole thing just died. I'm not sure what I'll do about it, but it was very disappointing. It is hard to keep momentum going when you can't meet face to face.

I would start by joining their groups, and being an asset in their group. Also market your plans, maybe have a wonderful website that you have created for them to quickly and easily see what you envision.
Have them write guest post on your website. They could even verbally tell you their thought, then you write it up and they edit it and post it.
You can also collect and present all of their upcoming events and existing resources on your new website. Over time your website will become the point place. You can even start offering a membership card, that allows them to get discounts at participating stores. This will take a bit of resources, so feel free to ask college students, and under employed folks to help you setup the digital backend of stuff and doing research/etc.

Susan --- Here an Idea:  Try to have something to offer to these people so they find something they need ... Everybody need to learn how to work efficiently in team. ... Organise a workshop on collective intelligence or? Ask a small participation to cover all he cost and ... at the end include into the workshop your project and discussion about the way the community is ... whatever you do, prepare it along with the chosen facilitator  " Good Luck''
