Any ideas for treating DOMS (that muscle soreness you get a day or two after you work out or do hard labor you're not used to)?

Heat seems to treat me the best, but sometimes cold is the ticket, especially in the summer.  Alcohol seems to delay it but make it worse.   I've pretty much given up OTC meds unless something is actually injured.  Stretching helps, i should probably prestretch more than I do...

If I ever get really sore, my go-to remedy is a blistering cold shower. I'll do some deep breathing (and this might be what helps, too. Research Wim Hof and his breathing method to prepare you for the cold) and I'll take the coldest shower for the space of my favorite song, maybe 5 - 6 minutes.

I have a bad, stiff neck. The cold shower is the last resort to help usually. Sometimes my hands go numb while I'm in the shower, but I reliably get fixed up by it.

Whenever I work out really hard; harder than I'm supposed to, I get cramps really bad. I've tried all sorts of ointments and creams and they might work to an extent. I've tried magnesium lotion. I've tried icy-hot for horses. I've tried electric shocks. They all help a little, but nothing compares to pickle juice. My whole family on my dad's side gets really bad Charlie horses. It's real bad. I'll hobble to the fridge, pull out the pickle juice and drink half the bottle. That helps faster than you'd imagine.

Pickle juice. I'm telling you, it's a blessing to discover pickle juice as a remedy for many afflictions. If not pickle juice you can mix lemon juice, honey, and lots of salt. That's tasty and does well to supplement pickle juice.

Sometimes when I'm dehydrated I get terrible heat headaches. Bending over to pick something up is excruciating. Sometimes these miserable headaches will last days. Pickle juice! Pickle juice will fix that!

I think a lot of our ailments in the muscles we experience from either working hard or dehydration are because our body uses up all the electrolytes. You have to get electrolytes! Don't buy that power aid, gatorade bs. That has sugar and crap that's unhealthy in it! I buy a can of pickles for the juice. I hope this helps.
