In 1890, Fr. Kneipp wrote an internationally best selling book on herbal medicine and the therapeutic value of water. In 1990, I met a 75 year old man who practiced Kneipp's methods and who had had only one cold in his entire life!

PS. A listener tells me that Fr. Kneipp's name is properly pronounced "Knaip, and he wasn't born in the Czech repermies, but in Stephansried, Germany"... so, thanks to that listener. I don't speak German and the book I have states that the town in which he was born was part of the Czech Republic at that time. So hey, I have some smart listeners, which is cool!

Yes, the name is pronounced Knaip and Stephansried never was part of Bohemia (today Czechoslovakia).

He died in Bad Wörishofen, "Bad" meaning officially registered spa (thermal springs, pure air etc.) which is still synonym to Kneipp treatments.
In Germany we have something called "Kur" which is a spa treatment paid (at least in part) by the Federal Health insurance system. My grandfather went there about once a year, his sister and his wife also from time to time. They all lived well into their nineties, my grandaunt to 102 years.
You will find many Germans who swear by Kneipp, some have the installations for cold-water treatment in their homes, and some little towns have "Kneipp parks" where you can do the water walking.

Judson, do you use his water therapy? Could you give a little more information on what this is?

Maybe the link that you included has that information. I don't click on links for many reasons unless they are something I am familiar with.

Yes. BTW, if you use iTunes, iHeartradio, Soundcloud, etc you can find my podcast without needing to click the link. To put it briefly... Fr. Kneipp developed tuberculosis while at seminary. There was no medical cure and he was nearing the end. He found an old book that recommended using cold water for health. He began taking short dips or swims in a river, several times daily. His health improved, so another student who also had tuberculosis (and wh only had months to live) joined him. They both recovered fully! Over the years, Fr. Kneipp developed a full system of water treatments and medicinal herbs to treat a wide variety of diseases and to strengthen the constitution in general. As opposed to the more rigorous extremes that come to mind with Wim Hof and such, Kneipp's methods were gentle and modest.... including 4-5 minute cold baths or swims, walking barefoot in the dew, various wraps with wet linen. His system of herbal medicine was intended to be a household pharmacy for the poor. He makes medicinal herbs very approachable and their use simple and straightforward. For this reason, his book became an extremely influential international best seller. So far, I have found the water treatments helpful with nerve, circulatory and muscle issues due to the lasting effects of a severe injury - it is said to strengthen immunity too... I hope it will!

Thank you for the archives link that is one I know is okay.

I was hoping it had to do with drinking water.

I do take cold showers which is my only opinion for his water therapy since I live in the desert and my tank (pond) will not hold water.

I can't do " iTunes, iHeartradio, Soundcloud, etc you can find my podcast" because my computer has no sound.

I do youtube if they have closed captions but only really early in the morning due to my internet provider.
