I discovered this site recently while I was looking online to see if there were any like-minded people in Sweetwater County. I moved here recently and know nothing about gardening in the area. I was hoping to find like-minded people I could link up with in real life. Instead, I found this site which is incredibly interesting and seems to cover my interests in building and gardening.

I've been interested in permaculture ever since a friend introduced it to me over a decade ago, and building in cooperation with nature for years and years.

Interested in strawbale, cob, stone (natural, uncut rocks), rammed earth, willow/tamarack, and am open to other kinds of building. I've not had much experience in actually building things, though I was hired by friends in the past to do some things like sanding, painting, inserting insulation, caulking. I even had a friend who showed me how to attach the wires for outlets. Those were all a long time ago (I'm a 63 yr old female), but I'm still interested in alternative houses.

Also interested in permaculture, greening the desert, espalier, growing herbs, growing anything, water gardens, night-blooming gardens, etc.

I forgot to mention that I would love to plant a food forest. A wild dream of mine is to get property that is 1 mile by 1 mile square, live on part of that and try my hand at creating a food forest on part of it. I don't know if that's doable in Wyoming, but it would be cool if I could do it.

Also forgot to mention underground houses and walipinis as interests.

Welcome aboard, T, great to have you here!

I think you should definitely go for the 1 square mile food forest - would love to see you document all of that here!

Thank you.

If/when I get the property, I would like to "journal" my journey here.

Super good luck with that from someone who lives in Laramie County. I had a permaculture group in laramie county but it was too difficult to get people together. If you ever want to come see what all the earth works and trees look like in Wyoming you're welcome to come on over.

I would love to do that when the weather gets warmer.

I live in Sweetwater County and that's as far into Wyoming as I've ever been.

Edit: I came into Wyoming from the Utah border (the road that goes through Heber City).

There are parts of Wyoming that grow things well enough, we just aren't one of them in Laramie County. I've done pretty much everything you can do with permaculture and yet, I have nothing to show for it. You can check it all out though.

I was born in Wyoming. It's windy here. Oh so windy. Did I mention wind?

I wasn't sure how well permaculture would work in Wyoming, but I thought it would be great to find some local permaculture people willing to try it.

We've definitely noticed the wind.

I would suggest only buying property that already has trees on it or a source of surface water

Thank you for that advice. I definitely am interested in something with trees on it. Ideally, I'd like a year-round stream of water, but don't know if that's possible. I am woefully ignorant of much about Wyoming. I am learning about it, but still have a lot to learn about the flora and fauna and water.
