My hands get super dry and cracked in the winter and with all the hand washing these days it's even worse. Usually I'm constantly slathering on moisturizer. For the last month or so I've been spraying my hands with a water and vinegar spray after washing with soap. I don't rinse the vinegar off, just dry my hands as usual. It's made a huge difference. Within two days I stopped using moisturizer and haven't used any since.
I have a little spray bottle next to the sink. For each cup of water I put a tablespoon or so of white vinegar in. I don't actually measure, just dump in a glug. Precision isn't needed here. Im sure you could use whatever kind of vinegar you want, too. I wash my hands with soap, dry, spray on vinegar rinse, wave my hands around a few times, then pat mostly dry on the towel again.
Skin is supposed to be a bit acidic to protect itself. When you wash with soap or even just water, you raise the ph of your skin. Your skin recovers, but some people do it more slowly, and when you're washing your hands every half hour in between every client you meet or whatever, your skin might not even have time. So the vinegar just helps it along.
This is a life changer for me. It even helped my eczema, which is coming back now that I've started eating more grain. :(
