I have been viewing posts here and looking to put an RMH in my basement. I didn't expect to share anything just research and build. But on a test fire I pulled out my company's $19k thermography camera and I figured I'd share a bit anyway.
I stacked some fire brick and insulated fire brick in the J shape. My goal was to test my setup and then hopefully burn some paint off my barrels. setup was great, I've never seen one work so it was nice to see some action. I was hoping to burn the paint off a barrel by propping it up above the test stand. No joy there but I knew I was reaching.
On a whim I remembered I have my company's Flir camera at the house so I whipped it out. It's brand new so I don't know the software as well as the old one but the pictures are interesting.

the flaps are tinfoil. no paint burn off so I thought I'd insulate halfassedly, no joy
Thermal cameras can be kind of fun. I have a much cheaper one that taught me a lot about where I needed more insulation, had leaks, cold spots etc. in real time. Made making adjustments really easy and fast. Also great for seeing at a glance where certain materials were better than others for radiating heat and which ones held it the longest.
Glad you had the opportunity to take the photos and share them.
