You can plant whatever quick growing vines you have on a trellis, plan it out with sticks and a blanket or sheet to see where the shade will fall (keep in mind seasonal sun range). Here we have chayote, which will cover a structure almost immediately, but you may have climbing beans or other vines that may do well (malabar spinach...). Passionfruit and bougainvillea take a bit longer but also do the job.
You also don't have to use gardener shade cloth. You can whatever fabric you have and can support. I've used leftover fabric from my sewing collection to shade things. Of course this depends on how much shade you need and how much space to cover, but even old sheets will work.
