I posted a few years back that Lois Lowry was instrumental in my desire for natural plant dyes and specifically growing my own.  Gathering Blue is such an amazing book.  This year the Madder is bug enough to harvest for red, we have Yarrow, Elderberry and Goldenrod and new seeds came yesterday from Strictly Medicinal so that we can plant Indigo this year!  Anyone else planting for dye?

I have grown annato once before in tennessee, I have read recently that the color from annato seed makes an amber yellowish orange and  spice alum is used to set dye. haven't tried it, i just cook and happened across the info. good luck.
