I was wondering how a welded post and beam would hold up for an undergroundhouse/or greenhouse.Just the major bones of the structure.Wood be used for sides ans roofboard.Would you sink the metals posts in the ground or put them on piers?

Metal posts are ideal, they are strong and light weight compared with timber.
I would encourage you to install them with flat plate on the bottom and locate within a square footing at least 600mm in the ground.
Further if possible.
That way they are stable and can have timbers or steel beams etc placed on top easily.

Switching from electric heat to a rocket mass heater reduces your carbon footprint as much as parking 7 cars
