Made an emergency pit stop at a rest stop near Columbus and my son spotted some nut trees.
We collected nuts and husks and took photos of the bark.
I'm pretty sure they are some kind of hickory,  but there are so many kinds of hickory!
Tell me what you think:

the nut does look like a hickory, but the bark doesn't look like the trees in my field. its very easy to tell a hickory by the branches. there very geometric.

Alas, I probably will never be there again to check out the branches.
I think I'll try a nut, if its decent tasting, I'll research how to start seedlings.

That would be amazing!
I have a property line that is a good  place for taller trees, nut trees like these could be perfect.
