Is this your survey? i did it while i was on the train so i didn't splurge on the essay portion. What I'd probably like but I dont think it's possible to address is expandable essays for highly agree or disagree. When it asked 7 questions on has permaculture greatly changed your life and I answer Hell yes 7 times, i'm a pretty good candidate for a lemme explain how awesome it's made things. I think i screwed up and chose yes to farmer but then the questions where out of my league and I couldn't roll back so I had to put in 0 for income, 0 for products n so on. I think most homesteaders think their farming when life goes beyond lettuce but they may not qualify as a professional farmer even though they manage more diversity.

Hey Saybian,

Awesome - thanks for taking it! Your point is so true - it's very hard to capture the full range of experiences and transformations the people bring to their work in permaculture. With survey
research it's about a more-or-less constant compromise between going deep and going broad. I'm trying to go broad with this, and so have to sacrifice the ability to go deep with any
given respondent. It can be frustrating for some folks - though I was glad to see it didn't stop you from enjoying it - borderline fun!

Otherwise the task of analysis just becomes to great - if I manage to get ≥500 responses to the survey, as I would like - imagine the challenge of analyzing 500 open-ended essays!
Multiple choice has some real limitations, but it also allows one to include many more people in the process. Does that make sense?
