Hi to all,

I have a project I am intent on trying a little later in the year, Id like to use sheep dung as the primary component of some biodegradable pots for use on the farm, probably for keeping tree and bush starts, I had the idea of making a mixture and pressing it between two clay pots maybe with a plastic bag liner to create a kind of no stick slip mould.  The intense sun here would probably bake the pots thoroughly in a couple of days.  Any refinements or suggestions to this idea?   Possible other components to the mix include: crushed eggshells, random leaves, rabbit fur, combed out dog hair (waste not want not), chicken blood, sheep blood, cracked oyster shells, and crushed walnut and peanut shells, quail feathers, probably some other things I havent even considered yet.

Any help or inspiration most appreciated. Best, M

I would research about home-made coir pots and see if that generates some ideas.

One year I tried making some paper mache pots with strips of newspaper and a flour paste. I only used these for larger plants - like pumpkin - and they seemed to do the job. It's great to be able to just plant the tree/veggie pot and all and not disturb the roots, so I wish you luck!

We can fix it! We just need some baling wire, some WD-40, a bit of duct tape and this tiny ad:
