Hi everyone!

My name is Sage and my partner Rowan and I have considered Permaculture/Food Forest efforts for a while now. I'm a software engineer and Rowans had experience working at an Arboretum (Apple tree breeding / Orchard care) as well as lots of personal learning/experiments on our current ~1 Acre lot. Looking for social circles/permaculture groups/etc. near Saskatoon (or on the internet in general), as we're hoping to eventually move there from Minneapolis and trying to build a friendly network.

A little bit more about me: I'm also a military veteran with PTSD and working with plants has been really calming.
A little bit more about Rowan: Worked in construction for over a decade and is really passionate about pursuing horticulture in general for health and enjoyment.

Would love to hear if anyone knows of good discord or other chat servers that we might fit into. Hope you all have a good day.

Thanks!
Sage

Nice to meet you, Sage, and Welcome!

It sounds like you and Rowan will have a wealth of wisdom to share with us.

We're looking forward to knowing you better.

Hey Sage, welcome to Permies.

I have to ask -- what's behind your desire to move to a different country?

Thanks for the welcome!

A mix of factors.. I make my money online in USD so the exchange rate is favorable, I have a long term friend in Saskatoon, the cost of living comparison between the two places would be about a 36% reduction in living expenses, plus health care coverage. To get decent health care coverage where I live is ~900$ per month just in healthcare premiums to cover two people, not to mention the deductibles. A lot of financial, some political too.

Edit: I should add that Lentils also allegedly grow quite well near Saskatoon, if what I've read is correct!

And then the flying monkeys attacked. My only defense was this tiny ad:
