Hi all,

i want to plant Corylus colurna because it is ideal as a mediterrean staple:
- Tolerate seasonal standing water
- Tolerate drought
- Grows in marginal soil/rocks (see picture)

- Is native to the (european) mediterrean

It was logged to near excinction because of its timber, so i have not yet seen a natural stand of it.

It is a tap-rooted species, so in combination with the difficult space i want to grow it in, it should be started from seed.
However i read that improved cultivars exist, so i want to plant those, but i could not find any,
all the nurseries only have potted trees started from seed.

Does anyone know the names of Corylus colurna cultivars?
Because if i had the names, i could specifically look for nurseries that have those.

I don't think you will find an improved version from seed, they won't grow true to seed so any named variety is going to be a clone.

Of course not...i want to buy grafted improved versions, but i cannot find any.

Later i want to graft said improved versions onto plants started from seed to preserve the taproot,
but have the improved nuts.

The wild nuts are rather small and hard to harvest (so i read).
