Been delivering to hvac shops
I am amazed at the scrap they throw away
I picked up an old oil furnace made from quarter inch steel .
Just need to cut off the top and slide a 55 gal barrel over it .
Well , after the fire box and stove pipe .
They are throwing away good equipment.
If it's old and too expensive to fix
Radiators also known as coils
Ekec motors
Fans

I've also seen gas water heaters scraped

Agreed, lots of reusable stuff, but reusable only by a tiny few with the vision and the skills to make it happen. I dunno, maybe one in ten thousand? Perhaps that is wildly optimistic?

The ratio gets a helluva lot tighter around here though.

I'm tuned into the waste stream of  plumbing supply stores, sounds like HVAC contractors are next!

The gas  water heaters are real diamondsin the rough.
I've turned one into a trough style biochar retort.
Im turning another one into a charcoal producing, water heating woodstove.
The central chimney makes it perfect to capture exhaust heat and the cylindrical form will hold a removable TLUD charcoal retort.

I may even use it instead of a rocket stove in my greenhouse, where a water heater tank is already staged to become a radiator/ tempering tank.

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
