So folks i managed to find a source for Lincoln 60 fire clay. Thomas it was 25 dollars for a 50 # bag.
If anyone on Vancouver island needs help finding a source please let me know.
SO now that i have the fire clay at home. I am reading that i can basically just make clay slip for the main firebox area around the core. It will be made from IFB mainly. The bricks are very straight and clean. and might even work without the slip. People in my community use the grey looking clay found locally for almost all of their stove mortar.
Now i will be encasing the main firebox core area with normal red clay bricks. I am wondering if i can just use some nice
cob looking subsoil for the rest of the stove body. I will sift it and maybe add some ashes to it. I have about 300 clay bricks to mortar and do not want to have to use this fire clay if it is not needed.
I have lots of the cob looking clay soil.
I deduced that i can do this. However i have not really read that this can be done. I think it can?
