We had to go to town today to buy feed for our animals, the deer.

The old man's beard was blooming, Clematis vitalba. This is what the plant looks like (thanks to Pinterest):

These don't grow here, as far as I know, this is also Old Man's Beard, Hericium erinaceus (fungi):

And let's not forget "Bearded Root" disease of sugar beets!   The two beets on the far right of the photo are more normal, healthy beets whereas the ones with the beards have 'Rhizomania' disease.  I think it's where the band members of ZZ Top got their inspiration! :-)
