Hello, we have some land that had been used for corn crops.  It has been bush hogged.  The stalks are very tough and hard to walk on.  How do I best prep the land for chickens, gardens etc?

Tracy, welcome to the forum.

What we do is attach a board to a chain and drag the board with our tractor to remove whatever we are trying to remove.

Once you get the cornstalks into piles they make good animal feed.

Here just wait. they will be much softer by spring and easy enough to push over. Or plough them under if it is a large area.

For chickens just leave them the chickens won't care and they will make a home for bugs that the chickens will love.

This year I chopped it down with a machete (human bush hog) & let it all dry for a couple of weeks after. Then mowed it which chopped it into smaller pieces. Planted winter cover crops directly into that. It seems to be working well.
