I am planning to build a tiny house on wheels and have been searching hard for non toxic structural sheathing alternatives to plywood or MgO board.

I just read how clay plasters can provide structural sheathing (!!) and can be used with conventional framing. I’m not finding a lot of info on the web, and would love to hear any advice or tips or resources.

Thanks!

Ps I live in a mild climate in Northern California, and would either apply an exterior finish or do cladding. Would metal cladding be a bad idea? I know lime and metal don’t go well together...

Hi Leu,
I would be worried that the clay would add too much weight on a movable house. A long time ago, they would simply install planking at a diagonal to provide strength against racking. Untreated boards would be non-toxic and ought to be fine, especially for a small building.
