Used to be. Can't help much with codes, etc, because it has been so long.

Where in SD?

It is a hard time to be moving there. You will not have much time to get things lined up and groundwork done before the freeze.

People do not understand the windchill. Or how it is impossible to stay on an icy road with that crosswind. Respect the weather. Make sure you are prepared.

we are moving abput 30 miles east of rapid city. closest town is hurford. we are going to transform a shipping container into a home right away, incenerating toilet, and yes we understand winter is right around the corner. my husband use to drive a semi from illinois to rapid every week for 5 years.

Well, he knows how fickle the weather is. Good. I had to learn that lesson the hard way.

A CSA should do well in Rapid, it was always a green town.

Best of luck.

We're in Ziebach County, which is about 200 miles away from Rapid. When you get here, check in with SD Community Action in Rapid - ask for Jed. I think they're trying to get something going down there. Good luck!

I'm in the northeast corner, about 30 miles from the MN border.
It is a long way from Rapid City and probably a lot colder here.
I'd be interested in hearing from you when you come to SDAK.

I see this is quite a late reply, but wanted to chime in anyway... we are in Manderson on the Pine Ridge Reservation 80 mi southeast of Rapid...hope you survived the winter and are getting your garden going. We just finished preparing beds in our annual veggie garden and planted a few things yesterday.
