Hi all,

I hope you've had a good day so far.

I'm looking for app games for kids to kill two birds with one stone where they can have fun but at the same time improve their solving skills or concepts (not necessarily studying them but learning them by looking at how the game works).

I'm asking because I'd like to get my niece more motivated on her studies of science and math subjects and the one she needs the most help with is with math. She's in grade 6 and she's already getting some math help with this app (https://www.studypug.com/math-help/) but it doesn't provide much of the "fun game" part I'm looking for, it's more of a traditional way of practicing math. I know for example "angry birds" was inspired by the physics game "Crush the Castle" and it is adhered to physics laws and there are all these videos on YouTube were explained the lessons you can take from angry birds..... well something like that but for math

Anyways, sorry for the long post, does anyone know of a good game math app? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Emma

We had Math Blaster when I was a kid. It's an app now. We thought it was lame, but we played it quite a bit.

Hi!

There are loads of educational games on https://www.twinkl.ca/go  - you'll be able to find some math-related ones on there that suit the age.

There are also a bunch of great resources on the site for grade 6 maths, some of which are free!

This is a free interactive measurements activity:
mm to cm - m - km Length Equivalents Interactive Matching Activity
https://www.twinkl.ca/resource/mm-to-cm-m-km-length-equivalents-interactive-matching-activity-tg-437

This is powerpoint on measurements:
Units of Measurement Warm-Up PowerPoint
https://www.twinkl.ca/resource/au-t2-m-4184-units-of-measurement-warm-up-powerpoint

Ratio and Proportion PowerPoint
https://www.twinkl.ca/resource/t2-m-102-ratio-and-proportion-powerpoint

Hope this helps or at least leads you to something that might keep engagement and focus a little more!

My kids used the Dragonbox apps, I just went to look them up and they are know a Kahoots company.
https://dragonbox.com/

Back when my kids were small (they are now 19,19 and 14) they used Big Numbers, Algebra 5+, Algebra 12+, and Elements which were at that time the only ones developed. They are excellent. My husband is a mathematician and he agreed with me at the time.
The 19-year-olds are now in uni, one is studying applied mathematics, and the other design engineering.  At this point the 14-year-old is interested in math and electrical engineering, he is also an accomplished musician, and math and musical understanding go hand in hand.

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
