Hello everybody!
my name is Alin and I am from Romania. I've been reading with interest various posts and threads on Permies lately. It looks like I have found a great community here so I've decided to join. Not much growing food experience under my belt but in the last years I've become more and more interested in plants and non mainstream ways of cultivating food. I have been working as a scuba diving instructor for 17 years but I have decided to hand up my fins for good. I have been working mostly in the middle east. I have purchased a piece of land in Romania, approx. 3.5 hectares / 8.6 acres. The land is situated on 2 hills. The bigger hill is a very gentle slope with sun exposure the whole day. The other hill has a young birch forest. In between the 2 hills, in the middle of the land, there is a small creek that crosses the land and it is formed by 2 fresh water springs, located a few meters outside my property. Various personal reasons and life events have put my plans on hold but the intention is to make a forest garden and a permaculture site over there, with plants with old genetics, so called landraces. Would love to offer some accommodation on site, where people can come and share from their experiences, to learn from each other.
My favourite quote is from the persian poet, Rumi and it says : "There is a voice that does not use words. Listen."
I am looking forward to continue reading and to learn from all of you here.
Best wishes and a blessed day to everybody!

Hi.  The land you found sounds very nice.  I would like to hear stories about this land.

Thank you very much, juniper, I am very excited as well, I can't wait to have the project started, I will document all the process, probably with a YouTube channel or on other streaming process. A lot to learn but with the help of an amazing community, It will be a nice project, me thinks. I'll keep you all updated.

Welcome to Permies and greetings from another European!
I have never been to Romania but our au-pair girl told stories about her home that really raised my curiosity. There must be beautiful landscapes and a rather favourable climate (a bit warmer than Germany).
I would love to see pictures of your land!

Hello Anita and many thanks for your kind words. I am in Denmark at the moment and I will be here until mid june but upon my return to Romania I will take some pictures and I promise to come back with some pics here. Until then, here is a screenshot from google earth. The yellow line is the approximate delimitation of the property and on the bottom right corner  you can see the gps coordinates.
Without trying to praise my home country, it is really a beautiful place. Amazing landscape and very good temperate weather, a bit warmer than in Germany. Still some lands are not destroyed by pesticides and gmo products. Unfortunately those are getting more rare but still possible to find very good lands.  The land that I have purchased for example it was never sprayed with pesticides or herbicides, according to the previous owner and the neighbors. In my opinion it is a hidden gem in Europe and, to quote a famous mainstream media, it is probably "the last virgin forest in Europe". Very foreigner friendly place (at least Transylvania), highly recommended for anyone who is interested in visiting it

I think I'll just lie down here for a second. And ponder this tiny ad:
