I'm looking for really remote land, like miles and miles between neighbors. Can anyone recommend any areas in KY or help in any way?

Robertson County is located in north eastern Kentucky in the middle of the Licking River and Bluegrass regions of the state. It is the smallest county in population, and the second smallest in area with one hundred square miles of land.

This place has a population of 9:

Hi,

East Kentuckian here.  There is remote land to be found hereabouts.  We're about 3/4 miles from our nearest neighbor.  Bet you could find more isolated if that's your thing.  Parts of Lawrence, Elliot, Letcher counties are awfully remote.  Just be on the lookout for heavily polluted land.  There was some proto-fracking done here in the 80's that seriously polluted some areas around oil fields -also a lot of strip mining, but you can avoid those spots if you do some looking.  Lots of very hilly land that is free of minerals that is probably a bargain -just look for flat places that can be cleared for solar exposure to permit gardens, photovoltaic power, etc.  Utilities are often lacking but you can luck out as we did with a rural phone coop and end up with a fiber connection run back in the woods.

Good luck!

Michael,
Can't tell if you are already living in Ky and looking and you are somewhat aware of what you are going to encounter there. Or you are somewhere else and just wildly fishing for wild land to explore with little idea of what to expect. I can give you more awareness of what to expect, both positive and negative, if you are in the second category. But for now I'll give you an initial very good lead for seriously remote/semi-wilderness, which seems to be what you may possibly be searching for:

ie  Depending on your desire details you may have to be conversant in topographical map reading and symbols, have very good tread on your hiking boots to handle a ton of near-vertical slopes and a near continuous limestone cliffline, learn to id copperheads at 10' distance, and surrender totally all hope of bringing  another gender to these parts for even a THOUGHT of a 1 second visit, much less a forever homestead with stunted veggies. Does the scenery and the 2-legged wildlife of the movie DELIVERANCE interest you? Or are you decidedly more tame in your projections?

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
