According to Dr Peter Cleave (I think- published in the 70's) sugar cane workers were allowed to eat as much sugar cane as they wanted and only had health issues when they were given a ration of processed sugar.

Agriculture collects solar energy two-dimensionally; but silviculture collects it three dimensionally.
