I am a recovering tropics hater, I now see its merit and absolutely love it, even it's often decimated by extreme storms and heat. Snow can be extreme, but it melts. A cat 5 melts your whole house and city down.

Florida has become entirely unreasonable. Everything decent is already developed, the rest is a swamp or "protected". I'm convinced there is absolutely no undeveloped area of reasonable price in this entire state. I have seen my entire region converted from forest to apartment blocks and suburbs in about 10 years.

These development agencies must work for big gov, rapidly destroying land so nobody can be self sufficient and rely on Big Brother.

Eh... any permies in the tropics have suggestions on where to look for REMOTE tropical land, especially outside the US? I'm willing to move anywhere. Cuba is ideal but, well, communist still. Patiently awaiting that day.

From all accounts, land is pricey everywhere, have you considered somewhere else on continental North America?

I believe here in Brazil you can get land somewhat cheap, especially when you convert U$ dollars to R$ (Real Brasileiro). A quick search showed a place with an area of 240,000 m² (59 acres) for R$220,000, which is less than U$44,000. I have no idea of the price of land in the US though.

Here is the link for the place i just talked about:
