Hi all,

The house I bought has a really tiny water pump house/shed. its probably 3'x3'x3' and has a shallow well/convertible pump, pressure tank and the very start of the heat trace system. Walls are about 5 inches of fibreglass insulation and the roof is 3 inches of rigid Foam insulation. the floor is also dug down roughly 1 foot but is only covered with a vapour barrier

In zone 3B, northern Ontario, any idea of how much i need to heat the well house? would a 100W bulb work? it has a 1500W space heater inside which seems like extreme overkill to me.

Did you make any progress on the issues in your last post about this wellhouse? (monitor tech and insulation?)

What's the advantage of replacing the relatively heavy-duty heater with a light bulb?

It is for sure overkill to have the 1500 watt heater in there but if it has a thermostat on it it's only going on when heat is called for. Is it on its own circuit? If it's not in danger of tripping the pump circuit and it has a thermostat adjustment just leave it be. You could get a kill a watt meter to measure consumption to get a better idea of total use
Cheers, David
