Hello!

I'm in zone 8a and was gifted a small red bud tree by my grandmother. It is about 2 feet tall and currently in a pot. When is the best time to plant it in the ground?

Thank you!

if it’s dormant/has dropped its leaves, i’d plant it now.

I've always wanted to rest a bit under a redbud tree after hearing this song:

Thank you Greg! It still has a few leaves but they are dropping fairly quickly. Thank you.

If it's a Native, North American Redbud, it should be fine just about anywhere you put it, so long as it's not stuck in bare clay. A Chinese Redbud, though, is only meant to grow on the treeline up a mountain & does poorly everywhere else without constant work to keep it going. Most of the redbuds I see around here are along a railway line on the corner of town, so they are fine with both deep loam & rocky.
