Hey!

Looking for seed rate and spacing advice for growing baby greens for salad mixes.  I am helping with a small scale production and do not have a push seeder yet. Average row length for baby lettuce will be 15 ft by 4.  So far I have been sprinkling one row of seed every 2 inches OR seeding 4 inch bands of seed every 12 ft or so.   How do you all seed baby greens? Any tips for doing this by hand?    For example: on seed packet says 60 seeds per 1 ft but how the heck am I suppose to apply that? Any help would be appreciated

I have found that mixing fine seed in a flour and water paste and painting onto strips of paper towels or toilet rolls makes it easier to distribute the seeds more sparsely.  Just lightly cover the strips with soil when planting.

For tiny seeds, I like to mix the seeds with a starter mix and I use a strainer to dust the ground and then water gently so as not to wash away the tiny seeds.

Another option that I use is to draw a line in the garden bed with a pencil making a little trench then I just sprinkle the seed into the trench.  Depending on my mood I might skip a few inches as I am pouring.
