I have raised rabbits in cages for years but this year I wanted to see if I could give them a safe grazing 'cage' in an enclosed hugelkulture bed (hotbed). This is an old spent bed not a brand new hotbed because new hotbeds are hot and the rabbits wouldn't like it at all. I have had no escaped and two successful batches of baby rabbits so far.

Here is a video of the results so far.

What a great idea! Those look like very happy, healthy rabbits. I'm so glad you gave this scheme a try. Your rabbits seem to have plenty of room to hop about in!

I saw a similar raised bed that had a cement paver warren set up in the center. Grow beds on either side, the pavers kept the rabbits contained. Urine drained through the pavers, rabbit poop easily harvested and spread on the beds. The sunken warrens cool in summer and warm in winter. They were able to hose the warrens out if they needed to.

Hi Robert. I am not good at responding to comments here but I am really curious if you have a link or picture for the concrete/raised bed warren system? Juli

Hi Robbert. I am trying to figure out how to ask questions and respond here so you see the question. Do you have a picture or web address I can look at for the concrete paver/warren/raised bed solution? Juli

I'll see if I can't get some pics from them. They told me they learned of it on a UK site. I thought it was a clever idea with the readily available rabbit poo and urine for nutrients.

Can't .... do .... plaid .... So I did this tiny ad instead:
