While I have enjoyed using aquaponics to grow vegetables, I think I've discovered the true value of having an aquaponics system on the homestead in addition to a regular garden.
It is a fantastic way to root cuttings! Usually in about 4 to 8 weeks, depending on what you're trying to root, you get a cutting with healthy long roots ready to pot up or plant directly. I've tried rooting cuttings a few other ways, such as directly in water with rooting hormone and in soil and sand, but all those ways seem to take several weeks longer than putting them in an ebb and flow aquaponics system and with less success rate.
Rooting cuttings is a great way to expand what you're growing on the homestead affordably, and aquaponics is certainly making that easier. I am currently rooting elderberry, currants, fig, goji, and mulberry. All of those thing admittingly root fairly easily anyway but seem to do it much faster in the system.
