Today I deleted a post that was riddled with nasty crap. A lot of it is stuff I've heard dozens of times before. I suspect I would have heard it hundreds of times before if I had not deleted it in the past. Further, I think this site would never have grown to what it is now if I had not deleted it. But this time I have decided to share a fragment of this. Just to give folks some idea of the sort of thing that does get deleted. And, this is some of the lightest stuff. This post had some hard core bashing in it that I won't quote here.
Paul, I come from a mathematical background and I've made precise and logical statements that hold true regardless of my position in the permaculture movement. I get the impression that it's all about your ego, you say "I'm an expert", "I give away more information than all other permaculture people combined" implying that you're mr big shot famous guy, so you're always right, even when you're making nonsensical claims like "There are ways to get information into brains via the purchased DVD path that are not open in the free path."
So his argument about permaculture is correct because of his math background. But my argument is wrong because of my ego.
And, I wish to make it perfectly clear to anyone reading this. My ego is obscenely huge. Ridiculously massive. We could talk about narcissism - but it would be without a mirror. The level at which I think I am cool is freaky high. So any attempt to shame me by talking about my ego will always have the opposite effect. I am proud of my ego.
As for being from a mathematical background, keep in mind that I come from an engineering background. I have an enormous track record of working with great engineers, mathematicians and scientists. I wrote the algorithm for computing the square kilometers for any polygon with respect to the curvature of the earth in ten minutes. Damn, I'm good. And a big part of my job was to figure out which engineering, mathematics and science was crap and which was of value. Including hire/fire decisions with the people that created it. So I gotta say, a mathematical background does not, in my book, give one license to speak the utter truth.
As for "regardless of my position in the permaculture movement" - well, when we are talking about what is good for permaculture, I hardly think it is fair to say we are on equal footing. I think that if one were to make a list of the top ten voices in permaculture, I would, at the very least, make the top ten list. Whereas a quick google on your name, complete with the word "permaculture" returned zero results. So when we are talking about permaculture, I think experience can carry some weight. But your logic suggests that when talking about permaculture, a background in mathematics trumps all permaculture experience. ---- I think we just learned how feeble your "precise and logical statements" statements really are.
And finally, I built this site to talk about things I want to talk about in ways I want to talk about them. Not to be a place to broadcast crazy shit for crazy people in a nasty way.
............
I post this here to give folks a general idea of the sort of thing that we remove all the time. Childish twaddle that sound like "I command you to think the thoughts that I think."
I suppose that this person, and people that sympathize with this person will think that i am a mean and terrible tyrant and they will never have anything to do with me or my site. That works out great for me.
And if they choose to tell the world what a terrible site this is because it deletes this sort of thing, then I like the idea that the receiver of such information will think "a site that actively deletes your bullshit? Sounds like paradise." So, again: works out great for me.
