Has anyone ever tried using a RMH to kiln dry raw wood for lumber purposes?  I'm curious to know any pros/cons, possible designs, etc.  With the price of lumber, I think it would be advantageous to not only mill your own lumber but kiln dry it quickly for use as needed if you don't have storage space to let it dry naturally.

That is an application I never thought of but it would be perfect in many ways. Very even heat with stored mass so that as moisture was added and released, it would dry the lumber without case hardening and end splits.

Interesting idea, but I think it's easier to build solar kiln. For solar heated one you need enclosure, transparent roofing and some fans to remove moisture (there are a lot of plans online). For mass heater you need the same enclosure (no transparent roof) + the heater.

What could go wrong in a swell place like "The Evil Eye"? Or with this tiny ad?
