Hi, I tried retrofitting a travel trailer this year. I put in wool insulation, but the walls aren't done. I put in a wood burning stove. Original gas stove is there, and propane tank on the outside. It has a sink and tub. Tub still needs installation, tub works well for young kids, and as a shower tub for adults. I wanted to put gravity solar water tank on the roof, but didn't get that far. I was making it to be off grid. The floor could use a layer of insulation. It is a vintage Mobile Scout, 1972. I have the title. It has new tires, and repacked and greased ball bearings. I really love this little trailer and put in a lot of love. I have to let the dream go tho. I'm moving on for a work opportunity. If anyone is interested let me know.

Very cool.. I have a 1962 Serro Scotty Sportsman. I am glad that you didn’t get around to the rooftop water tank, as these trailers are a fine and precarious balance of strength vs. weight. I can almost guarantee that even a small water tank, once filled, would cave in the roof! Good luck on finding the right person to buy your trailer, and just out of curiosity.. what is your price range?

I am hoping for anything between $1000 and $2000.

You need to look into “glamping” groups or vintage trailer enthusiasts. Some people pay ridiculous prices for these old trailers..and spend just as much restoring and sprucing them up. I’d buy it right now at your price if I wasn’t so far away, and had the extra time to travel to get it.

Sharing a pic of my trailer.

Here’s a pic of another vintage Mobile Scout on the property.. needs some TLC, but pretty good shape for its age and state of abandonment. The desert preserves things that would rot elsewhere!

Oh wow! Nice trailers! Yeah, I learned a little about that last year. Spent the year in AZ. I found 3000 yard spool of decades old sewing thread, at an old house. It didn't break when pulled on, I've used all of it now, it seemed like it was still brand new.

My niece got a Scotty just like that one about 8-10 years ago in California, pulled it across the country to Connecticut, and lived in it for a year in her sister's back yard. We have it now as a spare bedroom for grandkids or visitors. Not much room but well laid out for the size.

Nice! The Scotty makes a perfect spare bedroom for guests. I have some vague plans about a ‘vintage village’ of old trailers, niced up a bit (but not too much!) for a retro themed guest area.

Mine was in my cousins side yard, inherited from his grandpa who toured and played music. I placed a concrete driveway for him (by myself! A+ quality, by the way), and he asked what he owed in payment. I told him that I don’t charge family, but when he countered with an offer of the Scotty, I relented. Drove it from Reno to Albuquerque with no plates, and registered it there for a PERMANENT trailer plate! I lived in it for over a year when I first arrived at this property.. just because.
