A major question:
How to give some bugs a try, safely ?

I have discovered big ones, they are 2 inches long.

I can see 2 issues in trying:
- Is it an edible bug?
What is the risk?
Are some poisonous?

- Is it like a snail, do we have to clean the digestive track?

I have found this big bug twice: once in a rotting prickly pear, and once in an old hump of composting horse manure... Which would not make it safe for eating I guess...

Any clue about this topic?
Gracias

Hi Xisca, Entomophagy is a new interest of mine. With over one thousand edible insects, it's an exciting new culinary frontier. Xisca, have you identified the insect your thinking of eating? Maybe you could post a photo to help with identification? I plan on starting a new tread once I collect more info. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Rick, if you find any info about my questions, please come back here and let's gather informations grouped by theme!
If some are not edible but non is poisonous (just yuk!), then great!

I did not take pics of these big fat guys I had in the horse manure...

My first try will certainly be for meal worms, there is plenty of information and a neighbor has it for his hens.
