Hi all,

since I asked last year to get real seeds for heat resistant potatoes, a member of permies from Queensland (AUS) was so kind and sent me one potato which made it magically through the Thai customs.
Obviously the customs didn't bother because it was "bare rooted" as such?

It had survived a long travel from north of Australia, but the plant grew well and strong.

A first positive sign was the harvest of about 8 (!) similar sized potatoes yesterday in Thailand.

Trials before with European breeds didn't give me more than the size of a Pearl or Pie...

So this one is a huge step forward.

Next step is we will plant all again in the summertime of Thailand and hope we can get them flowering.
A work colleague from India has another kind of heat resistant potatoes and does the same.
He will keep one in the ground in hope it will set flowers at the same time.

Then we will swap pollen so we have both the same chances and hope for true seeds and a new breed..

Fingers crossed - here she is, the humble potato..

What part of the year do you plant your potato? Will the cooler monsoon season give a better chance?

My experience gathered so far is the following.

Here in Thailand the best time for Potatoes is November till March but that will need watering.

The problem with potatoes is not the heat, it is the fact that a potato needs cool nights below 28 degrees celsius to set fruits.
