Hello everyone, I just found this site today and it seems like a wonderful source of information for permaculture. I've been interested to learn more on the topic for a while but could not find much on the topic until now.

Currently, I am still in university and so I don't have land for a large garden. However, I do have a container garden on my porch and a small plot for other things in the ground (although the rabbits keep destroying it).

I'm looking to learn as much as possible before I begin my dream to own a homestead. I have had no experience until last year with growing some plants, but its been going well so far. I'm not sure on where I would like to start the homestead or much of the details surrounding it, but I do know I'd like about 5 acres or more and I'd like to be in the northern areas of the US.

I'm looking forward to explore the forums more, and learning more about homesteading and permaculture.

Hello Nic, Welcome to Permies!

You might not have land, but a container garden is a great way to start.  Now get those bunnies under control!

BTW, I lived in Morgantown for a year (more outside of town high up) in 89/90 when I taught at Waynesburg College....

Interesting, what led you to choose the Great North Woods as a place to homestead?

I was living in NH when we sold the house and I left the computer industry and went into teaching full time versus night school. I first went out east from MI back in '79 so I had been living in NH and MA for some time. First house I bought was in NH, 12 ac. started there as my first homestead. Been many places, but came back to where my kids were born. All that's left in MI are just cousins and 2 sisters and my late bro's wife and his grandkids. So its basically where I have been most of my life.
