While Kai lived in Ant Village, he made himself a small cob house, near the wofati that is now called Bartell's Bunkhouse. It is a simple structure, but still in good condition, and I am enjoying staying there currently.
Kai didn't post much, but his
Kai's Belated Posts thread is well worth reading. He writes beautifully, and worked on many interesting projects while he was here, besides the cob house. I especially love his post
"Haunted House", which describes how he completely changed his plans for his house when he realized that he didn't feel comfortable building his original design.
Kai Duby wrote:So the house got built on the backs of ghosts and lack-wit caprice. Although, I like to think that there is some wisdom in those muddy walls that trickled out to me as I made them.
I hope that I'll be humble enough and wise enough, like Kai, to change my plans when called for! And I'll be very happy if I can make some small improvements and repairs that are even half as creative and well thought out as his fences and gates and other projects!
I've added a sign on the door, with an illustration of one of Kai's
nuthatches (I'm not good at drawing, so I attempted to copy one of the images from
Cornell's bird information).
