I would use any variety that produces a lot of runners as they are very vigorous. A lot of my driveway strawberries are the big round white variety. I think they are called Aloha berries. In fact, that variety has been sneakily and quickly taking over my other June bearing and ever bearing plants. Good thing they are so yummy!
If you have a local wild strawberry, it would probably do well but just any wild strawberry is not necessarily going to thrive in your climate. And if you can get ones that your neighbors are giving away, as said above, then you know those are ones that are doing pretty good since they have enough to give away. 😆
