I am interested in having coffee bushes as an under storey plant where I plan to let chickens free range. I would prefer to harvest the coffee cherries for my own personal caffeine habit rather than have a bunch of hyperactive poultry running around. Can anyone tell me if chickens would eat the cherries (the coffee fruit containing the bean)?

I have no idea if they would, but I know they will eat almost any other thing, so....

What would be wild is they eat the berries and poop out the beans like those toddy cats that produce the $700 per kilogram coffee..

They peck at ANYTHING RED, so they will pick all the ripe ones for you...

I doubt they will actually eat the seed, only the outer fruit you have to sluff off anyway so you should still get your caffiene.

Just speculating and jealous you can grow coffee....
