Hi, I'm Heather!  I have a full time job that keeps me tied to the St. Louis area.  I have a modest house on 3 acres with a beautiful sunset view and a creek in the woods I walk almost every evening with my dogs.  I am fairly new to part-time homesteading and have been teaching myself how to garden and keep chickens and ducks for the last 4 years or so.  I planted an orchard when I bought this property 2 years ago and have a huge veggie garden.  I am really passionate about growing my own food, sustainable living, and turning my lawn into native landscapes.  I'm recently out of a serious relationship and still healing a bit from that but would also love to find a partner who shares my passions and homesteading goals.

I'm 38, 5'9'', non-smoker, no children, bisexual but usually more compatible with men for a long term relationship but I would definitely give the right woman a chance.  I am not religious but spiritual on some levels.  I have a lot of tattoos and am politically moderate.  I love science(my career is in science), nature, and exploring the world.  I am fortunate that my job sends me to amazing places around the world once or twice a year.  I try to find somewhere to go hiking or rockhounding wherever I end up.  My family is all back in oklahoma and I don't have a lot of close friends. I do have a few through work and the local gardening community but I am a bit of a loner and don't like crowded places.

My ideal partner is tall, reasonably fit, intelligent, handy(double entendre), has a high sex drive, no young children(I'm open to adoption in the future but don't plan to procreate and don't want to be a step mom at this time), communicative, non-smoker(I don't care about pot, just don't like cigarette smoke), politically moderate, not religious, lives nearby or is able to travel to meet me and in a position where they could eventually move onto my property.

A few more random things to give you a better peek at my personality and lifestyle...my house is mostly decorated with rocks and other treasures I have found while out hiking or walking as well as thrift/antique store finds.  I enjoy atl indie/rock/folk music and a few more eclectic things as well as oldies.  I am a bit of a prepper with a small store and stock my freezer with humanely raised grass-fed beef once a year. I'd love to replace that with venison so hunters are very much welcome here.  I have 2 dogs and a cat. They all sleep in my bed with me and are pretty much my constant companions when I am home.  Half of my flock are ex-battery hens and I will never put down an animal just because they are no longer providing me resources. My fashion is 'comfortable'.   I go to a local coffee shop once a week to get a cold brew coffee and a bag of beans.  At home I make pour over coffee with a light roast.  Laundry and the dishes are my least favorite chores.  I like to listen to true crime podcasts and watch criminal trials.  I'm left handed and have terrible handwriting. I recently switched to cast iron pans and will never use anything else.  I have an appreciation for art but other than gardening am not super creative or artistic.   I have an auto-immune disease that affects my tendons which causes issues with my joints.  I'm pretty good at managing it but am currently in the late stages of adhesive capsulitis(frozen shoulder) which is extremely painful and typically lasts a couple years.  I spent this last winter laid up in bed and lots and lots of physical therapy.  I'm thankfully doing much better and getting my health back...but i need to lose a bit of weight. I love archeology and have a collection of native American artifacts I have found in rivers and creeks(4 from my own creek so far!).  I am adamantly anti-lawn and am converting my front yard from lawn to a bird garden with all native plants that attract birds. I dabbled with polyamory in my 20s and while I am perfectly happy in a monogamous relationship if my partner wanted to I'd happily swing or pursue some sort of poly relationship.

Please message me or comment if this post resonates with you in any way.   I know I put a lot out there and I don't expect perfection from anyone.  My only deal breakers are smokers, being religious, or having kids at home.

Hello Ms. Heather,
This is Floyd in Northeast Texas. I want to thank you for such a wonderful and informative post. Now, if I run into you down at the camel sheds, I'll know who you are.
Now back to the matter at hand. Oh, speaking of hand, I am a very handy guy ( double entendre). I wear jumbo gloves and sport a size 16 ring. I also may not be tall per se but, I am tall enough that you and I can see eye to eye.
I am a high mileage unit with a good working drive train but, I still can't qualify for an extended warranty.
I, like yourself, saw my personal relationship crash and burn a couple of years ago.
I am healthier and happier now and venture a little further from the barn each day.
I encourage you to be cautious toward any rebound relationships. Don't lift your bag for the first car that stops to offer you a ride.
While I think that I could make you a good partner, it just won't work between us. I just don't see myself leaving my little spread here in Texas and I'm afraid that it is just too far for me to drive up and cook you supper every evening and still get home in time to kill a chicken and churn.
I do wish you would explain your definition of
"not religious". Does that mean no God or no church or what exactly ? I know it's important to you because you mentioned it three times in your post. I mean no disrespect but, I ask for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I'd just like to know. Secondly, if the little cutie down at the feedstore brings it up, I won't be standing there with a dumb look on my face.
Your little homeplace looks beautiful and full of potential. May you continue to learn and enjoy the homesteading experience.
I wish you well and wish you luck in your quest for a life long companion.
Best regards, Floyd.
ps. I was always taught to dig sweet taters after a frost, it's supposed to make 'em sweeter.

Hi Heather
I am older , but definately fit, i want to get away and live off grid, sharing tasks, living in peace, and with someone who is passionate . I too have a high sex drive, even at my age lol. I do not push my beliefs on anyone, we all live and learn through experience. I would love the chance to talk more with you. Oh yeah are there any brothers in the area LOL!

Eric 😎

Wow!  You might be the only person, other than myself, who I have seen growing gooseberries in a long time!  It's a real thorny situation to say the least, even though it's supposed to be "thornless"!

I have a goose berry.  It doesn't produce enough to bother with.  It grows very well and is about 5 feet wide and 4 feet tall.

Yeah, I have around 14-16 bushes, and some produce better than others, a couple don't ever produce hardly anything, and some years are better than others too.  I don't know if maybe it's a male/female thing that causes some to produce more than others?!
