Howdy folks! My name's Cam, I'm a 19 year old farmer, carpenter, health coach, writer (for nature magazines), and soon-to-be massage therapist from South Carolina. There's no place in the world dearer to me than the Blue Ridge Mountains; they're home to me---sacred. I done some traveling to far-flung places around the country and never did find a place I liked better. All I really want to do is live in harmony with the Land and its Maker, help folks all I can, and raise a free and self-sufficient family in these here Mountains. I been saving up cash for land, but it ain't easy getting good land in a good area and getting enough acreage. Also, it'd be nice to work together with some other families to create a kind of homestead community or village (many hands make the load light, as they say), so we can support each other and learn from each other. I'd also like to put the land into a Land Trust so that we wouldn't have to pay property taxes and the Land would be protected from the housing market for good. If anybody got some land, a community, village, or a homestead in Southern Appalachia that would like some help, new members, or you're willing to sell or barter land---please let me know. I'd really appreciate it! It would be an honor to work with you and your family.
Much obliged and many blessings to you and yours,
Cam

Hi, Cam

Have you considered being an Ant or Boot at Wheaton Labs? Some threads:

In case you may not have heard of Wwoofers, we have a forum for that:

https://permies.com/f/272/wwoof-hosts
https://permies.com/f/278/wwoofing
https://permies.com/f/279/wwoofers

WWOOFing stands for ‘World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms.’ The volunteer or ‘WWOOFer,’ gets the opportunity to spend time in an organic farm, learn what it’s like, how it works and what sustainable agriculture is all about. During your stay in the farm, you don’t have to pay for board or lodging. It is not a monetary exchange program.

Today's lesson is that you can't wear a jetpack AND a cape. I should have read this tiny ad:
