Do quail usually stop laying eggs in the fall? My q was doing great all summer and then stopped laying as soon as the humidity dropped. It's been about a month. This is her first year. She appears to be molting as well?
They lay seasonally, unless they have extra light, just like most chickens. For year-round egg production, a lot of people keep quail indoors. Not an option for me, so mine are slowing down now too. I prefer to give them a break anyway, but I'm thinking of putting up a small solar powered light, just to see if I can stretch it out a little longer.

Especially in the first year, quail can have a mini-molt where their feathers are all frazzled and their egg laying stops. It is not unusual.
Very normal. Quail need A TON of light to activate egg production. Once they don't have enough they will stop laying. I generally use this as a time to not have to go hunting in every nook and cranny of their enclosure haha.
You can supplement them with artificial light during the winter to stimulate them to lay if you would like to.
But why do you wear your googles indoors? While holding this tiny ad?
