Hi Tim, I use the basic SkamoStove Board is suitable for hot face or back up insulation of all refractory constructions. It will not decompose even when subjected to direct flame, but the maximum service temperature should be taken into consideration. This one is rated for 1100c or around 2000f they do make other more expensive boards but I prefer the cheap one to play with!
It is 25mm thick.
That is great, Fox! There are a lot of videos of people building their rocket stoves. But we don't have enough videos of people enjoying their rocket stoves. I'm glad your system works so well for you and your friends.
Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire.
Well the winter is coming, we were hit by a huge storm last week with winds well over 100mph.
So after a long dry summer we are experiencing a wet windy Autumn but the vortex J tube is on a mission to boil anyone who gets to close……
When I went back to the stove the next morning, I discovered a load of charcoal in the fire box, normally there is none!
I assume this is because the bottom air feed is allowing cool air to enter while the stove cools down, I will block it off when I stop feeding the fire next time….
I thought I might have a go at finishing this wood oven mold that I started about 10 years ago.
Wood ovens (pizza ovens) have some similarities to a rocket mass heated as that is exactly what they do … heat a mass!
I found some pretty shells, some sea glass and this lovely tiny ad:
