Hello,

I've been looking at digging out an area to use as an underground fruiting chamber for mushrooms for the past several months. I currently fruit everything indoors, but I'm looking to expand my operation a bit. Given the high humidity and lower natural temps, I figured this would be the perfect environment to fruit mushrooms without having to manually adjust or tweak many variables.

I've been reading through dozens of posts here, which have given me a lot to think about in terms of planning and design. Has anyone else built a cellar for this purpose? Are there factors I should consider that perhaps I wouldn't have come across in other posts?

I'm in south Mississippi, USDA zone 8b, for reference. Thanks!

I have not heard of anyone doing this.

This does sound like a great idea.

If I was planning on doing something like this I feel I would probably go with a trash can root cellar.

It all depends on the kind of mushroom that someone wants to grow whether that variety needs dark or light and what the temperature range is for that variety of mushroom.
