Afternoon fellow permies,

Hope this finds you well!

I have been looking up your website for a couple of years now while I've been doing research on how I want to go about designing my own permaculture project.

I've finally started, my first project has been a Banana circle and it's doing quite well. I'm hoping to have a go at Swale building and other rainwater capturing techniques because it gets mighty dry out here.

I'm a carpenter by trade and I'm hoping to learn a whole bunch of other skills along the journey to self sufficiency and cooperation with nature.

Pleasure to meet you all, hope to get to know you well in the future.

Thanks!

Hello Shea and welcome to Permies!
Have you come across our SKIP program? You might find that a useful 'checklist' for skills building. Follow the link and there is a full explanation, but the original idea was to create a framework that would enable people with land to be able to find worthy people to inherit it. Many people are finding it useful as a means to broaden their skills. It isn't a 'how to' more of an 'I can' list - do your own research and demonstrate your abilities....Some of the badges won't be applicable, since the PEP bit is Paul's take on Permaculture and suits his values and climate.
I'd love to see pictures of your banana circle - we love to share peoples successful projects. I had a banana once; an ornamental one rather than fruiting here, but it survived for several years and they are useful for fibre and food wraps I gather too... Follow my signature link for more Permies navigation, and 'how to', links. Any questions about the site can be asked in the tinkering with this site forum.

Thank you for the heads up, the PEP stuff looks like it will keep me busy for the foreseeable future.

I decided to post about my Banana circle in the Greywater forum, here's a link if you want to have a look: https://permies.com/t/231712/Banana-Circle-Gray-Water-Disposal#2027233

Thanks for the advice and the warm welcome
