I know it's a broad and fairly open question but I need some thoughts on it. I'm involved with planning community food security projects in my area and oaks are one of the big staples that are native here (White oak).

I am thinking in terms of direct consumption, but would probably plant extra for wildlife.

I understand that some oaks don't produce every year, so I will keep that in mind.

Thank you!

From this source.

"Oak trees begin producing acorns at about 20 years of age, but 50 years is not unusual for the first crop. An average 100-year-old oak tree will produce 2,200 acorns per year. Strong production might happen every four to ten years"

According to this source.

"There are approximately 120 seeds per pound."

So one AVERAGE 100-year old tree can give you 18 pounds and change of acorns in a controlled bubble.

I'm not familiar in how much of a person's diet you intend on processed acorns but I hope this gives you a basic idea of what a tree might give you.
